"I went out and celebrated, just as soon as I got my first paycheck; $100 dollars. I bought a bicycle - something that
I had wanted and often prayed for through most of my young life. Most of the Orioles, of course, had cars, but none of them
was as proud as I was, riding the first possession of my life through the old streets of Baltimore." - Babe Ruth

"In an ancient two-story house which still stands, was Joe Wiesenfeld's bicycle shop, and at the rear of it was a large
yard, floored like a room. On that floor, coached by one of Little Joe's salesmen, I learned to ride a bicycle. It all seems
remote and archaic today, like mastering the subtleties of medieval equitation. But bicycling was a great and urgent matter
in 1889, when the pneumatic tire came in." - H. L. Menken

Your Choice: Walking or bicycling in scorching hot sun? Today's bike paths are designated/built, OR travel
underneath tree and flower canopy-lined alleys? Kids can cycle in allées but not on automobile and bus-filled streets due
to danger. It is also dangerous to ingest not only exhaust from tailpipes, but tire-erosion 6PP-Quinone.
View the 154 pictures plus several on this page. It is okay now to dream harmoniously and humongously. Be on the way. There
is an even better way than you thought.... Transform Alleys to Allées.
Bicycles can use Allées; paths of safety and freedom.
"Witnesses said the car drove away after striking at least one rider.
The group was gathered for an East Bay bike party, a monthly event in which people decorate their bikes with bright lights,
play music, and ride together on a planned route.
'It’s a really empowering event it’s one that people feel safe in so to have it disrupted in this way is troubling,'
said Ben Gerhardstein. 'It took the joy away from me on that evening.'
Oakland City Councilmember Dan Kalb said the driver should be held accountable for what he called 'dangerous behavior.'
'Some drivers, not most, but some drivers still have this ridiculous, antiquated arrogant mentality that if they are driving
a car they are more important than a pedestrian or a bicyclist,' said Kalb."

"Nobody should have to drive a car to raise a child."
Bike advocates and Baltimore City government measures do not take into account children wanting to bike, and their safety.
Changing alleys to allees and wider sidewalks will ensure that children have bike paths in the city away from cars altogether.

Amsterdam's Movement of the 1970's
"
"In the 1960s, Dutch cities were increasingly in thrall to motorists, with the car seen as the transport of the future. It
took the intolerable toll of child traffic deaths – and fierce activism – to turn Amsterdam into the cycling nirvana
of today."
"All that growing traffic took its toll. The number of traffic casualties rose to a peak of 3,300 deaths in 1971. More than
400 children were killed in traffic accidents that year. This staggering loss led to protests by different action groups,
the most memorable of which was Stop de Kindermoord (“stop the child murder”). Its first president was the Dutch
former MEP, Maartje van Putten. 'I was a young mother living in Amsterdam and I witnessed several traffic accidents in my
neighbourhood where children got hurt. I saw how parts of the city were torn down to make way for roads. I was very worried
by the changes that took place in society – it affected our lives. The streets no longer belonged to the people who
lived there, but to huge traffic flows. That made me very angry. The streets no longer belonged to the people who lived there,
but to huge traffic flows'" - Maartje van Putten, 63, recalls.

Cyclists are in danger of someone opening their, though parked car, doors from the inside of automobiles.
..............BETTER..............
Cyclists only go one way, so both automobile and bicycle drivers are able to see each other head-on.
..............BEST..............
Cyclists are completely protected, sandwiched between Streetcar/Tram, and wide Pedestrian walkways. Wide pedestrian walkways
makes it simple for people with visual, audio, and physical disabilities to travel, as there is enough room now for everyone.
Because the bicycle path is between Streetcar/Tram, this adds another layer of protection for pedestrians, and wheelchair
bound to be completely safe. Tired-vehicles travel on the other side of the Dedicated Tram/Streetcar Lane. The sidewalks
not only work now forward and backwards, but sideways to Tram.

"There is a big transportation issue here since the 1970's. The land along the right-of-way has suburbanized and the population
has tripled. This is key issue with majority of transit issues in the United States. Transportation is often an afterthought
to growth, and to developing land. But places on the East Coast where we were lucky to have legacy Rail lines everywhere,
we have an option to rectify this. If rail trails do what they say in the small print, which is part of their goal is usually
to save part of the right-of-way for future use. But there's a big * on that small point rail because trails can often hurt
future rail expansions more than saving it. Having a nice trail can sometimes cause people who live near it to become NIMBYS
against transit expansion both modes of public transit can exist with each other, with the right investments. .... We're
pitting the wrong 2 people together {transport riders and cyclists) It's been that we build all our infrastructure for cars.
It's because it is separate from cars {safety}..."
