TRASH COLLECTION CHOICE

"If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day 'til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you"

"There might be a little dust on the bottle
But don't let it fool ya - about what's inside
There might be a little dust on the bottle
It's one of those things, that gets sweeter with time"

"They're developing a substitute for love
The ingredients will come in many forms
When mixed with tobacco, you will be able to bind
a cigarette that will really satisfy"

Organics Composting to become Mandatory in the City of Laurel in 2025 - City of Laurel, Maryland

On this page we will take a closer look at the choices other cities have made so we learn what not to do, and look at what others have that are proven for years now.

Communal Trash Receptacles: The vision of communal trash receptacles will be shared on this page too. What choices do we have? What are their current functions, and what functions do we want them to have? What will they look like? How they will be laid in a neighborhood filled with townhouses? How do they work? How will recycling work? How will compost work with these receptacles? Can we have a place for free-cycle: things that other people can use? Can we have bottle deposit receptacles that we can get reimbursed when Maryland becomes a bottle depositor again? Can we decorate the outside area of the Communal Trash Receptacles, and even a little place to eat and have seating?

"This facility was installed in Harris Creek, Baltimore, at the urging of the Baltimore Harbor Watershed Association to bring public attention to the issue of trash in the harbor.

As water flows under the bridge and through the structure on the left, floating debris are caught by nets and held until workers can remove the nets, preventing the trash from entering Baltimore Harbor. Currently the interceptor is collecting about 5 tons of trash per month, and the Baltimore Harbor Watershed Association has been encouraging the city to install about 6 interceptors in the harbor."(2007)

"City of Baltimore Climate Change Plan of 2012" - Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake | Adopted by Baltimore Climate Action Plan Advisory Committee, Baltimore Commission on Sustainability, and Baltimore City Planning Commission

"Under the law, government operations will have to cut emissions by 30% of 2007 levels in the next three years. and another 30% by 2030. ....
The legislation is part of a climate package that includes proposals to purchase zero-emission vehicles for the city's fleet, update code to require "cool roofs" on any building erected with city funding, and establish a Zero Waste Commission. Conway said the other bills are still working their way through the council.
In January, Scott set the goal for reaching carbon neutrality in the next 23 years and applauded Conway's legislative push."

"Trash Can Redesign" - San Francisco Public Works

sanfranciscototertrashcanisters.jpg

"To reduce vandalism and litter in the City, Public Works encourages private property owners to comply with city codes by promptly returning their garbage and recycling toters from the street after collection, and placing them behind enclosures that keep them hidden from public view.

Toters that are left out too long on streets and sidewalks, or within plain view, are vulnerable to graffiti, vandalism, theft, and scavenging that often produces litter. They also obstruct the public right of way."
