NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
This is not an endorsement of product shown.

The streets used to belong to the people. People would congregate for socializing, commencing trade and other commerce, and hop on and off streetcars on a whim - maybe catching the eye of a new love.

Rainy day people always seem to know when it's time to call
Rainy day people don't talk, they just listen till they've heard it all
Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell 'ya they've been down like you
Rainy day people don't mind if you're cryin' a tear or two

If you get lonely, all you really need is that rainy day love
Rainy day people all know there's no sorrow they can't rise above
Rainy day lovers don't love any others, that would not be kind
Rainy day people all know how it hangs on a piece of mind

Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell you, they've been down there too
Rainy day people don't mind if you're cryin' a tear or two.

Rainy day people always seem to know when you're feeling blue
High stepping strutters who land in the gutters sometime need one too
Take it or leave it, or try to believe it if you've been down too long
Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside ~ they just pass it on
Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside ~ they just pass it on

Guess what? We already had a public transit that ran exclusively on electricity. Trolleys, Streetcars, and Cablecars. In 1920, 1 in 10 Americans owned an automobile. 1947 vision of auto manufacturers, tire companies, and oil barons forced streetcars to become eliminated, thereby forcing buses onto the public. They even burned the trolleys, cablecars, and streetcars to insure they would never return to the streets. Europe and the rest of the world went the other way after WWII: rebuilt their streetcars and new trains.

ALWAYS, "THE TROLLEY DODGERS"

The invention of electricity was deemed marvelous, but people adapting to new technology raised another matter. Streetcar-drawn horses to electric caused quite a stir. Because the new electric streetcars went so fast, and the public still getting used to them, people went about their walking business, not able to perceive, anticipate, or judge correctly the distance from a streetcar and oneself for safe passage across a street was. The baseball players chose this phenomena (and people watching their past-time) as their team name. There were injuries and deaths. It is an important moment in history to continue to reflect upon as change needs to prepare for its consequences.

ROD STEWART AND JOOLS HOLLAND

The two train aficionados share how trains more than inspire their music: "Naturally, we were very aware of each other's love of model railroads. Don't you laugh people. When we meet up with each other about music, its always trains first. So, what's happening with your layout? Well I'm building this. And then we get right okay, down to the music." - Rod Stewart
"But I think we should keep this all on track. I'm getting a signal from over there - and there's a lot of platforms. This is going to go out stow." - Jools Holland

The International Ragtime Dance Craze: "Watch Your Step"

Subway Guards and Motormen
Congregated once again
At the Streetcar Conductor's annual ball
Just watch them dancing 'round the slippery floor
As they did the year before
While the band is playing
Those subway guards are saying

'Watch your step! watch your step!'
Hear those conductors all shout
'Watch your step! watch your step!'
As they go dancing about

They're such a jolly mob
That crosstown trolley mob
Soon they'll all be drinking fine Rhine wine

Look at the fellows who collect your fare
See them there
Having the time of their lives
One and all at the ball
Dancing around with their wives

See the children that they bring up
On the nickels they forget to ring up
And while the band is playing
They are saying, 'Watch your step!'"

Celebrating Los Angeles' Big Red Streetcars via Multi-Song Serenade of songs

Jobs arose around the Streetcar runs. Famous Red Cars "Big Red" ran in Los Angeles & suburbs.

I'm riding on a streetcar
This one goes outta town
Goes up into outer space
Around the moon, and even underground ....

You don't have to worry
I'm riding on the streetcar
I'm riding on the streetcar, baby
You don't have to worry
Gonna make it back to you
Gonna make it
Gonna make it back to you

(Don't hurt nobody)
Mama, get it down, hit the town with the old crew
(Don't hurt nobody)
Whatcha doing right now
Don't hurt nobody

I got a bus pass, but I ride first class on the Streetcar - downtown with the fine ladies on the beep-side

Get out! Hit the town tonight! The whole world gotta get down tonight!
Hit the town tonight! The whole world about to get down tonight!
Get out! Hit the town tonight! The whole world gotta get down tonight!

Are we going to get around when we get on down
Man, I gotta make a move - time to get downtown
Get the streetcar and I'm heading uptown"

Let me know
Do I still got time to grow?
Things ain't always set in stone
That be known, let me know ....

See, I know my destination, I'm just not there
In these streets
In these streets
I'm just not there in these streets
I'm just not there
Life just ain't fair
Ashton Dumar Norwill Simmonds (AKA)

"I'm a single or a double-decker tram,
Indeed, a great invention - by man!

I'm a road vehicle but run on rails,
My punctuality rarely fails,
I'm easy to board, my cost is low,
I'm very efficient, although {forced to be} little slow!

Call me a tramcar or a streetcar,
A trolley or a trolleycar, La La La,
To carry people, I never say, "No"
Sometimes I also carry cargo ....

I cause no pollution and I have a long life,
Smooth and comfortable is my ride,
On wheels made of steel I run,
I;m so speciel; like me there's none!

"Make me go faster, or slow me down
Tell me when to stop, if you know
Open up my doors, and let the people in ....

I'm searching for a city that is green
And it's only fair that I take you there"

"Rosie": Built in 1909 in Philadelphia this streetcar was named, "The Crescent Rose." It was then exported to Porto, Portugal where it was in service daily until 1978. It was then shipped back to the states, serving San Francisco and now bought and brought to Dallas. As you see, Rosie is an affectionate beauty.
