"Jeffery was an interesting individual. He was very articulate, but he did have some unusual characteristics, or different
characteristics, I guess. He was not one to miss work. He just showed up for work and did what he had to do, but he did
not want the expense of having a car." {He liked cars, but simply did not want to own one.}

"How to Be a One Car Family" Working Moms Against Guilt
"Have you ever considered being a one-car family? If you are single, have you ever thought about living without a car of your
own?
Certainly, there was a time when neither of those scenarios would have been considered feasible, reasonable or popular. Owning
a car was our birthright and what so many of us worked toward after getting a driver’s license as a teenager. A car
is often the first big-ticket item we own — or go into debt for."

"I am a ‘no-car’ person. I take public transportation (which is so-so here) and am happier than when I had a car.
I have had many cars over my life in many cities, and to me, having car was like having a big expensive pet that you had to
worry about day and night." - Lulutoo says [July 23, 2020 in comments]
"We live in the sprawling suburbs of Atlanta where nobody walks (except to take a walk) and it’s relatively unheard
of not to have one car per driver. We're hardly alone: The number of households with two or more cars has increased substantially,
from 22% in 1960 to 58% in 2017."
"We live in central California. In a place that doesn’t have lots of public transit, and the transit we do have doesn’t
really give us much help. So we had to really consciously make the choice to make this work. We had to figure out tips to
successfully be a one-car family.
Why we chose to be a one-car family
Before we were married, we both served missions for our church. Shortly after coming home, we started dating. Matthew bought
a car and I did not. I used a family car until we were married. So instead of going into debt for a car, we decided to manage
with 1 car. That managing with one car meant we made sacrifices. It also meant we had to know each other’s schedules
and talk about them all the time. I think this helped us to bond and get through a lot of hard times because we had really
open communication. ....
Over the next 8 years, we successfully lived as a one-car family. My husband finished his schooling, went on to work for
a year before law school and we continued with just 1 car in Southern California while he was in school. I would recommend
this to anyone in a heartbeat! It was so worth it to keep us out of debt!
While we have lived with 1 car, through 4 kids and all, we have learned a few tips to successfully be a one-car family that
helped us..."
"Saving money isn't the only perk of becoming a one-car family. For instance, if you spend less time driving and more
time walking or cycling, you get more exercise. Switching to walking, biking, or transit can also make your commute less stressful.
And if you do less driving in total, you'll also pollute less, making your lifestyle greener as well."
"Dear Dollar Stretcher,
Have any other tightwads out there chosen to live with only one car? I’d like to know about your readers’ experiences,
good and bad. We currently have two cars, but maintenance and repairs are just killing us now. I am a stay-at-home
mom of one, and my husband works about 20 minutes from our house. What advice can you or your readers give for becoming and
getting by as a one car family? - The Cunningham’s"
