Acanthus mollis Bear's breeches; bears purple flowers and can reach 36-48" tall. Blooms from June - September.

Achillea millefolium 'Strawberry Seduction' Yarrow- Flowers are great for cutting and drying, deadhead after bloom to prolong blooming. Feathery foliage, this is a very low maintenance plant. Perfect for the butterfly and hummingbird garden. Jonker's carries many varieties of Achillea in colors from pale yellow to red. Heights range from 24” to 48” depending on your cheerful variety.

Aconitum bicolor Monkshood- All parts of the Monkshood plant are poisonous. The foliage is very attractive and glossy green, and flower is fragrant! This plant is tolerant of wet soils and they are generally 36-48" in height. The bloom time is July - September and they are often blooming after all other plants have stopped in the fall.

Actaea pachypoda (alba) Doll's Eyes- Actaea bears white berries in August and has lovely feathery white flowers in May and June. This plant stays around 24" tall and does best in moist rich soil.

Agastache 'Apricot Sprite' Giant Hummingbird Mint- As the common name indicates this plant is great for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. Everything about this perennial is fragrant and the leaves may be used in teas and salads. Our varieties all are in the 18-36" range and the flowers are in pinks, blues, and lavenders. Look for blooms in late July through October. For success keep this plant in moist, well-drained soil.

Ajania pacifica Chrysanthemum- This fall bloomer is best known for is variegated foliage. The flowers are yellow and it reaches only about 12" in height.

Alcea 'Creme de Cassis' Hollyhocks provide a strong vertical accent in the garden, with some varieties growing to 5 or 6 feet. Because of their height they may require staking. Their flowers (sometimes double) begin to blossom in June and last until August. This is an easy plant to grow because it will tolerate drought and plants started during the winter will flower in the spring.

Alstroemeria 'Mauve Majesty' Peruvian Lily- One of the hardiest heavy blooming yellow spotted alstroemeria! Likes sun and the fragrant flowers bloom for 6-8 weeks in summer. Good for the middle border, it grows to 30" in well-drained soil.

Alyssum aurea 'Gold Dust' Alyssum- Great for the rock garden and as a ground cover because it grows to about 8". Masses of golden yellow flowers in spring! Enjoy their sweet fragrance.

Amsonia hubrechtii Feather Amsonia- Plant Amsonia in mass and wait for the blue flowers to appear in June. Growing to about 30" tall, this plant requires lots of space around it for growth. An added bonus is it's great fall color!

Anacyclus depressus 'Garden Gnome' Mt. Atlas Daisy- White daisy-like flowers appear in May and June. This plant is effective as a ground cover and stays small, only 4".
Anchusa azurea 'Blue Angel' Italian Bugloss- A glorious royal blue flower graces anchusa in June and July. Heights range from 24-36". Sight this plant in a location with rich, well-drained soil.
Anemone crispa Wind Flower or Japanese Anemone- Anemone put on an unexpected show in the late summer garden. The elegant blooms range from white to pink and are a great focal point at about 36-40". They are virtually pest free and like rich, well-drained soil. Plant in mass or grow as a specimen in the border.

Hardy Marguerite- Lovely daisy flower heads over highly aromatic and feathery foliage. Anthemis is ideal for the cutting garden because it blooms all summer. Will tolerate dry to moist well-drained soils. The flowers on this 24" plant are lemony yellow and white and may start blooming in May.

Aquilegia 'Blue Bird' Columbine- An old-fashioned favorite for hundreds of years, Columbine has beautiful speared blossoms from pastel blue, pink, red, lavender, yellow and white. A hummingbird plant that does great in sun or semi-shade and rich, well-drained soil. A good cut flower from May - June, it may be found no matter which variety you have. Columbine generally is in the 12" to 24" range and is deer resistant!

Arabis blepharophylla 'Spring Charm' Rockcress- Fabulous winter foliage and excellent for the rock garden. Make sure Rockcress is planted in well-drained soil and is cut back after it is done blooming. You may get this plant to rebloom after the initial bloom in May and June. White to deep rose flowers bloom on this 4-8" plant. Rockcress is great as an edging plant.

Arenaria montana 'Avalanche' Mountain Sandwort
Armeria maritima Sea Thrift- A dwarf tuft-forming perennial with attractive grassy evergreen foliage and charming globular white, pink, or wine flowers. Excellent for edging beds and borders because it grows to 4-8". Also perfect for the rock garden. Deadhead to prolong blooming into fall, as it starts blooming in May or June. Very salt tolerant.

Artemisia ludoviciana 'Silver King' Wormwood- An easy to grow plant and best known for its silvery foliage. Very tolerant of wind, sun and drought, but Artemisia must have good drainage. They are a good plant for beach conditions. Heights range from 10"-30". The cut branches can be used in wreaths. Best of all it is deer resistant.

Aruncus aethusifolius Goatsbeard- Beautiful feather plumes of ivory blossoms appear above large, light green leaves in June and July. Likes moist soil and a shady location. A. aethusifolius stands only about 9" A.dioicus 'Kneiffii' is about 24", and A. dioicus reaches 6'!

Asclepias tuberosa Swamp Milkweed or Red Milkweed- This is the ultimate butterfly plant! It prefers wet soils, but will grow in a sunny, well-drained spot too. Great for the back of perennial borders. The white, pink, red, and yellow flowers all summer are sure to attract many butterflies. The graceful stems grow to about 30”.

Aster alpinus 'Trimix' We have asters that bloom in May (A. alpinus varieties) and we have asters that bloom in October (New England Aster varieties)! Asters are known for their tiny leaves and whispy daisy flowers. Asters prefer good, well-drained soils and sun. Like mums Jonker’s recommends cutting back the taller varieties until July 4 to control height. Alpinus is an early bloomer and great for the rock garden. These varieties are generally in the 8-12" range. They are deer resistant and hummingbirds love them. Site them in a sunny spot with rich, well-drained soil.
Aster dumosus 'Wood's Blue' Wood's Asters- These dwarf asters puts on a long color show in late summer. They stay short at only 8-12". A high point is that they are mildew resistant!

Aster lateriflorus 'Lady In Black' Lady in Black- We are very excited about this variety with its blackish purple foliage and white flowers! It is 30-36" and blooms for 2-3 months starting in late summer.
Aster novae angliae 'Alma Potschke' New England Aster- Ideal plant for fall, these plants are quite tall - 36" and may need staking.

Aster novi-belgii 'Alert' Michaelmas Daisy- Gracious back of the boarder color in late summer. Pinch back early for more compact plants.

Astilbe 'Alive & Kicking' False Spirea: All Astilbe plants are easily grown and are invaluable for shade and semi-shade areas. If they have quite a bit of moisture they can also grow in the sun. Their flower plumes are in colors of white, pinks, corals, and reds. The flower heads make a good dried flowers or may be left on the plant for winter interest. The foliage is feathery and fern-like. They need moisture to prevent browning and death of leaves. Most Astilbes bloom in July and August and are deer resistant and attract hummingbirds.

Astilbe chinensis 'Visions In Red' The Astilbe species chinensis works great as a ground cover with a more mounding habit. As with the others they like rich, well-drained soils.

Astilbe 'Fanale' This is a tough variety that is more sun and drought tolerant! With pink blooms in late July it is sure to delight you with its 6 -8 week bloom time.

Astilbe japonica is a species with narrow sharply toothed glossy dark green foliage. The plumes of flowers are pyramidal in shape. They tend to be medium in height compared to other Astilbe, most are around 24-30."
Astilbe simplicifolia 'Key Biscayne' If you are looking for a more compact Astilbe, check out the species simplicifolia. The plants are very uniform and stay around 14-18" in height.

Astilbe thunbergii 'Ostrich Plume' Looking for something to fill that spot in the back of your shade border? The species thunbergii has tall loosely branched nodding plumes on plants that range from 40-80"!


Astrantia major 'Abby Road' Masterwort- Astrantia is well known as a cut flower. The white and wine blooms it bears in summer add great texture to bouquets and also work as a dried flower.

Aubrieta 'Purple Gem' Rockcress- As the name implies, this plant is for the rock garden and for your bed borders. Looks best if sheared after flowering in June. The blooms are in the pastel range of white, pinks, and purples. Our varieties stay about 4" tall and like well-drained soil. Consider planting bulbs in and amongst your Rockcress for an amazing show in May.

Baptisia australis False Indigo- If you can't grow anything, we have the plant for you, the brilliant indigo flowering plant. With blooms in May and even into June this plant is a true delight. The pods it produces grace the garden all summer and into the winter. Baptisia australis is impressive at 36"-48" tall. We can appreciate that it likes well-drained but poor soils.

Bellis perennis 'Pomponette Mix' English Daisy- This sweet biennial flowers in April through June. The plant is tiny at only 3 - 5" and prefers a rich, moist, well-drained soil. We have two varieties with flowers from white to red. Bellis will reseed itself to delight you for years to come.

Bergenia cordifolia 'Bressingham Red' Saxifraga- What large glossy green evergreen leaves you have! This easy care plant is a great ground cover at 12 - 17". It does well in a wide range of soils and bears flowers from white to red. The foliage turns reddish in winter for a nice surprise. The leathery leaves can be used in flower arrangements.
Boltonia asteroides 'Nana' A real show stopper Boltonia is tall at 48" but can be pinched back in July for a shorter, fuller plant. Snowbank's pure white aster-like blooms cast their spell in August and September. They are easy to care for but appreciate well-drained soil.
Brunnera macrophylla Great fuzzy green leaves and tiny blue flowers, like a forget-me-not, this plant is essential for the woodland garden. The plants all stay in the 12-16" range but have differing leaf coloring. Make sure it has moist, well-drained soil. It is a suitable companion for your spring blooming bulbs and in mass under trees, and it is a self-seeder! Brunnera macrophylla 'Looking Glass' - New for 2005, One of the most exciting new introductions we have seen in a long time! Amazing leaves resemble cracked porcelain. As with the others it blooms in early spring for 6 - 8 weeks.

Buddleia davidii bicolor Butterfly Bush-White, pink, red, purple, or yellow flowers depending on variety, these woody perennials really draw a croud! Butterflies and hummingbirds love them. Maturing at 8-10 feet, Buddleia should be pruned in early spring for a more compact plant.

Campanula carpatica 'Blue Clips' Bellflower- Campanulas come in all shapes and sizes. From the small C. carpatica ‘Clips’ to the tall and floriferous C. medium and C. persicifolia.

Campanula garganica 'Dickson's Gold' Carpatica- Carpathian harebells. These are small mounding plants reaching about 8” in height and bearing flowers in blues and white. The flowers are pendulous and the stems are arching. A fine plant for the rock garden or along the garden path. They bloom from June until September. C. carpatica perform poorly in dry or wet soil, they need well-drained and fertile soil.

Campanula glomerata 'Alba' Glomerata- Clustered bellflower. Our varieties in white and purple will delight you. Great for the border and any informal area because of its 18” height. Blooms in early summer and likes moist soil. This variety is generally disease and pest free.

Campanula persicifolia 'Alba' Persicifolia-Peachleaf bellflower. It has been said that these will rebloom if trimmed after blooming – what a gift! In shades of white and blues, even some with double flowers. This back of the border plant grows to 36” and may need staking. Keep your eye on it in May through July to enjoy the blossoms. They prefer well-drained soil for best success.

Catananche caerulea Cupid's Dart- Legend has it that these plants were once used in love potions! They make a great everlasting flower and bloom in lavenders and pale blues on 24” stems. Remember they like dry soil and bloom June – August.

Centaurea montana Cornflower- Centaurea are generally easy to grow and are often considered a wildflower. They are great for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies so keep this in mind. Keep an eye on them, they may need staking. Flowers appear in July and August. We have 'Gold Bullion' this year with bright chartreuse leaves to contrast the deep blue flowers.

Centranthus alba Juniper’s Beard- Delicious fragrant flowers and the opportunity for rebloom if you prune. Their flowers of rosy red or white delight us from May until July! Make sure this 24” plant has lots of sun and lime soil. Centranthus flowers even when heat stressed.

Cheiranthus chieri 'Orange Bedder' Wallflower- A must for the English garden! The cheerful golden yellow flowers will smile on you all summer long. They are fragrant too. The plant is a biennial that reaches 18”, but will likely reseed and surprise you again and again.
Chelone lyonii 'Hot Lips' Turtlehead- This plant has the glossiest of green foliages and the flowers in whites and pinks will surprise you each fall. Often Chelone is blooming when all other plants have finished for the season. The 30” stems bear the unusual flowers that are shaped almost like turtles heads. It tolerates moist soil which makes it great for streambanks and ponds.
Chrysanthemum rubellum 'Clara Curtis' ‘Clara Curtis’ has hundreds of pink flowers and stands 24”.
Cimicifuga racemosa (Black Snakeroot) Bugbane- The elegant dark purple leaves of this shade plant make it a beauty to behold. The white spires of flowers it puts up in August and September are an added bonus.
Cimicifuga ramosa 'Brunette' ‘Brunette’ – a newer addition to our line, has pinkish white flowers and is only 48”.
Cimicifuga ramosa 'Hillside Black Beauty' Hillside Black Beauty’ – bears a slight fragrance and is considered a collectors item. Make sure it is in moisture retentive soil. This beauty reaches 7’!

Coreopsis 'Autumn Blush' Tickseed- It wouldn’t be a sunny garden without the yellow flowers of Coreopsis! If you deadhead Coreopsis it will rebloom; often people have luck with theirs blooming from June until frost. Most Coreopsis grow to 18-24”. Great because it is pest and disease free, drought tolerant. Don’t forget, it also attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. We have in stock at least 14 varieties.

Cornus canadensis Native Bunchberry
Corydalis flexuosa 'Blue Panda' A delicate plant that is a must for the shade garden. The charming Corydalis grows to about 12” and blooms practically all summer starting in late May. You can plant it in stone walls as well because it is drought tolerant.

Crocosmia 'Bright Eyes' A great garden plant for both it’s foliage and it’s delicate flowers, Crocosmia is a delight. The long strappy leaves generally reach 30-36” or more. In July it sends up spires of flowers that are almost freesia-like, and last until September. The red could not be redder.Make sure you mulch this plant in winter and you will want to be aware that it does like to spread out!

Darmera 'Peltata' Umbrella Plant- Darmera is a large spreading plant with beautiful foliage that reaches 30”. The lilac and rose flowers appear in March before the foliage emerges. Darmera does best in shade, but will perform well in the sun or partial shade as long as there is adequate moisture. Placement near a pond or stream would be just fine.

Delphinium elatum 'Blue Lace' Larkspur- Delphinium is derived from the Greek word delphis dolphin and refers to the closed flower buds, which resemble dolphins. Delphiniums are popular in English gardens and Cottage gardens and are most commonly in shades of blue, white, pink, and lavender. There are varieties with double flowers that are lovely as well. Most of our 12 varieties of Delphiniums reach a height of 36-48”. They bloom in June and July. If you deadhead (or cut flowers for bouquets) you may be surprised by a fall bloom. Most of the tallest plants will need staking to keep them looking good all summer long. Delphinium perform the best in moist, well drained soil.

Dicentra eximia 'Aurora' Bleeding Heart- A Beautiful delicate flower and foliage graces Bleeding Heart. The plants have the added bonus of being long bloomers, most bloom from May until September and the flowers are nice for cutting. Make sure these plants have plenty of shade for their leaves will curl. The heart shaped flowers are in white, pinks, and reds. D. spectabilis is the tallest species at 36” while D. eximia is medium at 18” and D. formosa is quite short at 10 or 12”.

‘King of Hearts’ - The foliage is gray green in color making it more versatile in the garden border. The blooms on the tiny plant, (it is only 8 or 10”) are pink and last from May until July or August. Make sure ‘King of Hearts’ and all Dicentra have moist, rich soil.
Spectabilis'-Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart. Great arching stems of flowers, will go dormant after blooming in May and June.

Digitalis ambigua 'Temple Bells' Foxglove- A gem for your English garden border. Foxglove sends up its flowers of yellows, pinks, white, apricots, roses, and reds in June and July. Our varieties are sure to delight you and your butterflies and hummingbirds. Not to mention deer can’t stand them. Most Foxglove grow between 36-48”. But D. purpurea ‘Apricot Blush’ reaches a whooping 60”. Species ferruginea and purpurea are both biennials, and purpurea is likely to reseed itself. The others, ambigua, lutea, and mertonensis are true perennials.

Doronicum caucasicum 'Little Leo' Leopard’s Bane- Deep yellow daisy-like blossoms in April and May. They prefer moist, well-drained soil and may die down in the summer.

Echinacea 'Coconut Lime' Coneflower- If you are looking for an easy to grow and easy to care for plant, Coneflower is a good choice. A favorite among sunny gardeners because its petals seem to look like an umbrella around their cone shaped core. The flowers are very showy and often large in size. They are a long living plant that often reseeds itself, so give it lots of space. Coneflower will rebloom all summer if you deadhead them or cut flowers for bouquets. They attract butterflies in summer and birds in the winter if you leave their seedheads to dry. Deer dislike their bristly foliage. E. purpurea ‘Magnus’ was the Perennial Plant of the Year in 1998, it bears rosy flowers on a 36” tall plant.

Epimedium cantabrigiense Barrenwort- Sheer elegance, the nodding flowers bob above the small heart shaped leaves from April until June. Our seven varieties grow best in the shade, even under trees – a situation in which few perennials will perform well. Their leaves have a reddish fall color that is a nice surprise. Epimedium are small in size at 15” and perform well as a ground cover in a shady area.

It is best to plant these deep and to mulch them in the spring. They will go dormant in the summer months. Find them a sunny spot with lots of room, they can grow to 5’.

Erigeron 'Azure Fairy' Fleabane- Best known for their very narrow thread-like petals and daisy shaped flowers, Fleabane is a long summertime bloomer. The flowers are in double lavenders and mauves on 12-20" stems. It is a favorite in Europe and is widely used in the rock garden. Make sure Fleabane has well drained soil and watch for butterflies to appear.

Eupatorium dubium 'Phantom' Joe-Pye Weed- Joe-Pye is outstanding in its field as a tall border plant! This tall accent plant is at its best in the later summer months and its flowers from blue to purples, pinks, reds, and even white are everlasting. All varieties are very different in flower color and size. E. rugosum 'Chocolate' is a favorite because of is dark-chocolatey leaves. All like moist soil.

Hemerocallis Daylily- There are multiple places in every garden for this profusely blooming family! The trumpet shaped blooms in many different colors are truly an art form. The arching almost grass-like foliage is also a great cover for spring bulbs and is good as an accent. Dwarf types do well in rock gardens. The clumps may be divided in spring or fall every 4 to 6 years. Daylilies are so hard to kill that it may one day become a symbol of the abandoned garden. There is no hardier plant than the daylily, so if you are looking for easy, or are a beginner, this is the plant for you! They are versatile and range in height from less than one foot to over five feet. They tolerate full sun or shade and nearly any soil conditions. They are great as a specimen in the border. Make sure they have lots of sun. Colors vary from white to pink to reds, and multi-tones. ‘Fantasia’ - Looking for new dinner plates? Lavatera thuringiaca Tree Mallow- A very easy to grow semi-shrub perennial. They are unsurpassed for porcelain-like blossoms in white, pink, and purple. Leontopodium alpinum Edelweiss- A sweet alpine plant that thrives in dry soil and sun. Growing to only 10" Edelweiss has white flowers in June and July. They need good drainage, especially in winter.
Leucanthemum 'Aglaya' Shasta Daisy- A garden favorite for many years, the Shasta Daisy reminds us of the sunshine. They make an excellent cut flower, and this trimming promotes reblooming. Stokesia laevis 'Colorwheel' Stoke's Aster- Best in groups of three, Stoke's Aster is a long blooming perennial. The aster bears flowers in blues; even yellow and white varieties exist. Lasting from July until September, the flowers grow on 18-24" stems. They need well-drained soil and winter mulch for best success. S. laevis 'Honeysong Purple' - Purple blooms light up the summer, this variety is rapid growing and reaches 12-14".

Stylophorum diphyllum Native Wild Wood poppy- Wild Poppy has yellow blossoms in May and June. The plants are quite small at 6" and are very sensitive to direct sun. For best results plant them in moist, moderately fertile soil in partial to deep shade.

Thalictrum actaeifolium 'Perfume Star' Meadow Rue- A much underused perennial, Thalictrum is tolerant of moist soil and is easy to grow. They have wispy flowers in soft pinks and violets that float above beautiful blue-gray foliage. They make a good dried flower or cut flower for bouquets much of the summer. Tiarella 'Crow Feathers' Foam Flower- An excellent small plant or ground cover for the shade garden. Tiarella reaches about 10-12" and has small flowers in whites and pink in May and June. They perform best when placed in a cool moist site much like a woodland garden. Cut the flowers for bouquets or everlastings.
Tradescantia andersoniana 'Satin Doll' Spiderwort or Job's Tears- Cut Tradescantia back in July for reblooming later in the summer. They are tolerant of most any condition and will spread to create a nice ground cover. The flowers in pink, lilac, or purple bloom first in early June. Tricyrtis 'Empress' Toad Lily- Tricyrtis should be planted where it can be seen and enjoyed. The unusual flowers have much detail in colors of white, pink and purple. They do best in moist, rich soil in a part shade to shade location. The flowers are present in August and September.

Trillium luteum Native Yellow Trillium. No woodland garden is complete without Trillium, a wildflower favorite. Trillium bears flowers in white, pink, or red that bloom in May. The Trillium ranges in height from 8" to 20" depending on the variety. Delicate Trillium does best in moist, well-drained humus rich soil.
Trollius 'Earliest Of All' Globe Flower- Trollius flowers have many petaled cup-shaped golden yellow blooms. They bloom in May and June on 24" plants. They may rebloom if the conditions are right. This is exciting because the flowers are very long lasting as a cut flower. They need rich moist soil and this makes them great for along streams and ponds.

Verbena canadensis 'Homested Purple' The Hardy Verbena is an excellent plant for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. The purple or pink flowers bloom all summer from May until September. They grow nicely as a ground cover.

Veronica 'Baby Doll' Speedwell- Veronica is a large family of useful low maintenance plants. They have tapering flower spikes that need to be deadheaded to promote a rebloom. Some are dwarf and trailing, others are tall and upright. They work well in rock gardens and in rock walls. Butterflies and hummingbirds love them. Their foliage is deer resistant. Flowers of most Veronica are present in June through August. They range from white to pink to shades of blue and like full sun. We have many varieties to bloom and grow in your garden.
