"Beautiful landscapes draw tourists to volcanos and geysers, contributing to an internationally renowned clean energy model
that derives 99% of power from clean energy through a combination of geothermal and hydropower sources.
Efficient natural geothermal energy extraction requires the concentrated occurrence of three factors: 1) permeable land, 2)
underground heat, and 3) water. This manifests as active volcanoes, geothermal vents, hot springs, and geysers. The geological
activity keeps the temperature inside the Earth high, allowing extractable energy to be accessed from the planet's surface."

"Ice formation on streets poses a major problem in terms of both the safety of drivers and the cost of damaged pavement. In
addition, dangerous conditions due to ice can lead to road closures, massive traffic jams and ultra-long commutes, state-wide
travel bans, delayed start times, declared state-of-emergencies, and business and school closures. All of this adds up to
considerable economic loss, up to hundreds of millions of dollars per day depending on the severity of the conditions. In
order to address the challenge of icy streets, millions of euros/dollars are spent every year by public and private institutions.
The most common de-icing technique in use today is the dispersion of salt or other chemical products, such as calcium chloride,
sodium chloride and potassium acetate, able to reduce ice formation on the street surface. However, this comes at a cost as
both salt and the other products cause structural damage to the street pavement, as well as other serious detrimental environmental
impacts, i.e. contamination of water, subsoil, and vegetation. Given the magnitude of the problem and the negative effects
and significant costs related to the available options, new solutions that are both economically and environmentally sound
are highly desirable. ....
Cost considerations: While a detailed cost analysis has not been carried out here, it is estimated that the up-front
installation costs of the proposed low enthalpy geothermal based anti-icing system are lower than those corresponding
to other technical solutions."

"Many communities and businesses in the western United States are showing the way, saving large sums of energy and money while
using 'direct-use' geothermal resources.
Heat that Comes Directly from the Earth:
Low-temperature geothermal resources exist throughout the western U.S., and there is tremendous potential for new direct-use
applications. A recent survey of 16 western states identified almost 12,000 thermal wells and springs, more than 1,000 low-to
moderate-temperature (68° to 302°F, or 20° to 150°C) geothermal resource areas, and hundreds of direct-use sites. Direct
use of geothermal resources is the use of underground hot water to heat buildings, grow plants in greenhouses, dehydrate onions
and garlic, heat water for fish farming, pasteurize milk, and for many other applications. Some cities pipe the hot water
under roads and sidewalks to melt snow. District heating applications use networks of piped hot water to heat buildings in
whole communities. Directly using geothermal energy in homes and commercial operations is much less expensive than
using traditional fuels. Savings can be as much as 80 percent over fossil fuels. It is also very clean;
producing only a small percentage (and in many cases none) of the air pollutants emitted by burning fossil fuels."

Indonesia and Japan teaming up to use geothermal energy to produce electricity, green hydrogen, and ammonia.
"The joint study conducted by the two entities received support from NEDO, Japan's national research and development institute,
which encourages technological development to build a sustainable society. 'Clean hydrogen is one of Pertamina's future businesses.
We are also developing a green hydrogen pilot project in the Ulubelu geothermal area with a production target of 100 kg/day.
We are excited about our collaboration with TEPCO HD and NEDO for the green hydrogen and green ammonia development. We believe
this collaboration will create high value, especially in energy transition and decarbonization efforts,' said Dannif Danusaputro.
Indonesia is a country with the largest geothermal potential in the world. This potential can be used {for} electricity
generation development and the production of green hydrogen and ammonia."

"The current clean hydrogen production is not cost competitive within the market to drive a successful hydrogen economy in
Australia. For this reason, using geothermal energy with lower operating costs might be an economically favourable option
for the clean hydrogen strategy in Australia. This presentation comprises several focus points corresponding to geothermal
energy’s potential for hydrogen production in Australia. Different geothermal-based routes for hydrogen production are
investigated to explore the possibility of producing clean hydrogen in the Australian geothermal context. Overseas endeavours
in terms of low to moderate geothermal sources using organic ranking cycles (ORCs) are reviewed to identify current international
practices. The benefits of using a hybrid energy system that combines geothermal energy with other renewable technologies
such as solar energy to increase efficiency and reduce the cost of renewable hydrogen production, are investigated. Furthermore,
geothermal energy extraction from oilfields by retrofitting oil and gas are reviewed to identify essential and influencing
factors in this domain. This research brings novel insights to unlocking the potential of geothermal energy in contributing
to future low-carbon energy systems."

ENHANCED GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM CONCEPT & EXECUTION HAVE BEEN AROUND A WHILE
"Although most of this increase is projected to come from additional wind turbines and biomass combustion plants, geothermal
electricity generation is estimated to increase by 60% in the same time frame. However, the percentage increase
for geothermal generation could rise considerably higher if enhanced geothermal systems (EGSs) ,
which can effectively operate on the more broadly available, lower-temperature geofluids, proves to be a good cost and environmental
performer. Coupling EGS technology with the fact that geothermal plants tend both to run ―trouble free - at nearly full
capacity for most of their lifetimes and to serve base load power demand well, geothermal power, customarily associated with
states with conspicuous geothermal resources (geysers, etc.), could become a viable option for many other states and, in the
process, become a significant contributor to the U.S. power infrastructure." [Page 2]
ICELAND: NEARLY 100% ZERO EMISSIONS FOR DECADES ~ AND $$$$$$ LOVING IT!
Island, the once poorest island nation in Europe, has made the greatest energy makeovers in history; casting off fossil fuels
through embracing geothermal power. Nearly 100 percent of Iceland's electricity comes from renewable sources. Today, its
approximately 375,318 people are some of the wealthiest in Europe. Well, when one's energy is pretty much free, why wouldn't
everyone be financially stable, happy, and wealthy!
For well over 12 years, Iceland is a mentor, working with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to spark a similar
energy revolution in Eastern Africa. Iceland finances exploration projects to training future geothermal engineers.
