"Maryland is home to 19 active municipal waste landfills and 21 closed landfills, each producing potent greenhouse gases of
methane and carbon dioxide. .... In addition, it would be foolish to conclude that incinerating waste is a solution
to the findings discussed in this report."

Before a method of "getting rid" of things, let's look at the steps before that "collective" decision.
Then discover what plasma arc gasification is.
SOLUTIONS BEGIN WITH YOU: AT DWELLING, IN NEIGHBORHOOD, IN NATURE, AT WORK, AND ON STREETS.
ALL OF THESE PLACES ARE YOUR HOME - THE COMMONS OF PLANET EARTH.

YOUR PART:
I. REDUCE
A. PERESHABLE PURCHASES Buy fruits and vegetables for what you and family can eat no more than two weeks. Sales often entire
over purchasing, decay, and then becomes rotting trash. To take advantage of sale prices, wash and freeze or cook recipe
immediately, cool, refrigerate, and freeze. Disciplined purchases saves money too!
B. CHOOSE PRODUCTS WITH LESS PACKAGING. Nearly every product product has a headquarters telephone number. Call and first
praise the product. Then ask whether a box is necessary when product is already in a bag.... Cost per item goes down with
less and less recyclable packaging.
C. COMPOST Vegetables, Fruit, Flowers, Grain and Nut shells, Bakery products, Paper (shred), Coffee grounds, and Tea (remove
bags and filters unless marked, "Compostable") with any outdoor plants, leaves, wood.... Dry all citrus and banana peels
by placing in sun. Do not place any dairy, animal, or product except egg shells.
II. REUSE
Think creatively of how you can find purposes that enhance your life! You can always research the mult-uses of things that
others have found. This saves a lot of money too! For example: a can becomes a pen and pencil holder that you decorated!
Donate any items outgrown by kids that do not hold personal attachment. It is better when a child chooses to let go than
just taking things away, as it can be traumatizing. Clothes and shoes can even be sold to reuse stores. Any other good condition
clothes - donate. Look for outdoor 24-hour donation boxes. Rips? Now you have rags!
III. BE NEIGHBORLY: YARD SALES, & DONATE We think we will use this or that, and then we realize, "Never gonna use." Are
there kids in your neighborhood that could use some clothes as they grow so quickly? Have a yard sale! Then donate the rest.
IV. RECYCLE
Metal cans, wax-coated paper like milk cartons, milk jugs, and cardboard boxes. Look again through what you are placing to
recycle. Those egg cartons are great for multi-color paint products! It won't be able to be recycled due to the paint, but
re-using it a few times if possible saves money. Great especially when many kids need paint. [If you paint a lot though,
purchasing a high quality washable palette is advisable.]
V. BREAKDOWN & SEPARATE
Breaking down items to their materials will allow more to be recycled. For example, products that have textiles and some
type of wood product. Furniture: chair, sofa, couch... are most often made of wood and various materials. Make a mattress
challenge! Adult starts cutting and kids guess what the material layers are. What can you use the springs for? Art projects?
Do not break down electronics and appliances. Reusing/recycling "take out" parts, like refrigerator drawers, shelves,
and rails are fine. Bring to recycle if not collected where you live. Often electronic selling stores will. Separate buckets
helps keeping recyclables. compost, and everything else separate.
VI. EVERYTHING ELSE
When you dispose of, "everything else," know you are doing your utmost to keep waste down. Broken glass. Non-compostable
food. This is where gasification takes over. Know that your waste will no longer go to a landfill or get burned
in an incinerator. Now a plasma arc gasifier will turn your waste into many viable products, like hydrogen cells
to fuel your automobile!"
When you do your part, inside and outside your home, we truly can have a, "Zero-Waste" society!
And every creature with Planet Earth THANKS YOU!!!!

PEOPLE SPEAK: INCINERATOR BE GONE
"Baltimore is poised to make great strides towards the goals of creating good jobs and ending harmful environmental practices.
When we combine the vision of our world-class education institutions, the passion of South Baltimore community activists who
never gave up, and the leadership of city elected officials, we will do several incredible things:
* We will put to rest our health-and-environment-destroying trash incinerator;
* We will slash our greenhouse gas emissions; and
* We will create good jobs for those who need them most.
* We will do this by separating food waste from the solid waste stream of educational institutions to keep it out of landfills
and incinerators, and composting it at a new South Baltimore facility." - South Baltimore Community Land Trust
